Learning to not see kindness as a transactional deed is a lesson that can take multiple times to learn, but with time, it will get easier! Take care 🙂

I had zero allies,so I had to endure it all alone. I’m grateful for the experience because although she cost me my job along with another 2 years of being blacklisted and not being able to get work following the trauma she caused, I was able to better myself inside and out. People can be genuinely cruel and not even give thought to the damage they cause to others. I took the high road and I’m better for it, mentally and emotionally. Thanks for your article.

Comment on The Paradox of Kindness: How to Stop Others From Taking Advantage of You by admin https://theadviceable.com/2020/02/21/how-to-stop-others-from-taking-advantage-of-your-kindness/#comment-102 Sun, 11 Jul 2021 15:24:40 +0000 https://theadviceable.com/?p=1492#comment-102 In reply to Sangeeta Mehta.

Thanks so much for your lovely feedback. I am glad to hear that you have learned to of course always practice kindness, but to also set boundaries and protect yourself. It’s a tough lesson to learn, and I myself feel like I’m constantly honing that skill–it takes practice!

There are many people who try to misuse kindness – it’s a selfish act, and I feel it’s going to get worse over the years. Hardships and setbacks could make some people more humble or willing to rough it out, but most of them misuse others to get away from negative experiences. People who feel inadequate or even shirkers take advantage of others decency and willingness to help. Some people are not kind to others – they actually lack empathy. There are still many who genuinely need help and kindness – they are the deprived ones but unfortunately it’s very difficult to recognise who’s being honest – the lines are very blurred. After many years of experiencing misuse, I’ve come to realise that it’s good to help only to a certain extent and not beyond! Most of the humans are capable of helping themselves – they just need to make the effort ;)…I’m prone to be kind by default but I’ve also learnt to keep my emotional distance to protect my aura 🙂

Comment on 7 Reasons Why Your Friend Has Been Ignoring You by admin https://theadviceable.com/2023/06/21/why-is-my-best-friend-ignoring-me/#comment-98 Mon, 26 Apr 2021 13:07:01 +0000 https://theadviceable.com/?p=1782#comment-98 Ah I am so sorry to hear this–how heartbreaking! It is very sad to see a long term friendship fall apart. Friendships can change, and not always for the better. Hopefully you’ve given yourself time to heal, and to explore new and healthier relationships with other people!

The only difference is I know EXACTLY why she’s been ignoring me. It started a couple of years ago when her new friend came on the scene. We were at a ballgame watching our sons, M showed up and I became invisible. This has happened at every game M has showed up to. We’ve been friends for 9+ years and I still don’t understand why. It was identical to what u said about the social media. I had no clue how close they were til I read “it so great when u finally find ur best friend”. 9+ years, but she just now found her best friend. It was a slap in my face and I was completely heartbroken!
