We’ve all been there before where we felt stuck in a funk.
We may struggle to get out of bed in the mornings, or lay awake at night wondering why we’re in this seemingly permanent “blah” mood.
You may find yourself unmotivated at work, or just in general. You may feel purposeless, listless, and lacking any drive.
It isn’t always easy to snap out of a funk, especially since there’s no universal quick fix.
However, there are a few methods you can use to speed up your departure from your funk. Learn how to get out of your funk fast with these 6 tips.
6 Ways to Get Out of Your Funk
1. Take an inventory of your health. How we are taking care of our bodies can definitely impact our day to day mood, so take a moment to assess your health habits. Are you getting enough sleep every night? Are you getting adequate exercise? Are you eating a healthy diet? Keeping all these aspects in check are absolutely critical in maintaining an emotional balance, and if one of them is out of whack, you can bet that your mood will be affected.
2. Make time for your passions. What activities in your life bring you joy? What hobbies spark your creativity? Maybe you enjoy curling up with a good book. Or maybe you love to write, or travel. Whatever your passions are, make more time for them. Your passions and hobbies are how you recharge your batteries, and there’s no better time to hit “Reset” than when you’re in a funk.
3. Channel your energy towards positive activities. It’s all too easy to give in to a funk and let it depress your mood. Rather than letting your funk take charge, direct your energy towards other pursuits. Plan a get together with your friends this weekend. Declutter your desk. Try out a new fitness class. Or check out a new book at the library. Focusing on other positive tasks will distract your mind from your funk, making it easier to get over your funk.

4. Immerse yourself in nature. One of the best things you can do to quickly elevate your mood is to get outside and immerse yourself in nature. Not only will the Vitamin D boost your mood, but being in nature also has the ability to refresh your perspective, and even enhance your creativity. So whether you go on a walk, head to the farmers market, or even take your morning coffee outside, be sure to get outside for a few minutes every day.
5. Reassess your purpose. Feeling like you’re restless and in a funk is often a mask for feeling purposeless. Take a few minutes to address what your purpose is. It doesn’t need to be an over-the-top, grand purpose, but assess what is most important to you. Having a goal and a purpose in mind is essential to leading a fulfilling, satisfying life.
6. Journal. I know I’m always extolling the benefits of journaling, but when you’re in a funk, there’s no better time to pull out your notebook and pen. Try journaling for at least ten minutes, and commit all your thoughts to paper. By physically removing your thoughts from your mind, you’ll be surprised by how much easier it is to re-examine your thought processes, and even find ways to address whatever challenges you’re dealing with.
