Whether you’ve been in a relationship for two years, two months, or two days, there are a number of theories out there that claim to predict just how likely it is that your relationship will last.
Many people believe that lasting relationships are based on personality types, birth order, or even their astrology sign. However, new research points to a much simpler approach to making a relationship last.
Turns out that relationship longevity is not dependent on the previously mentioned factors, but rather the simple quality of kindness.
This study found that having a partner who is caring and kind leads to greater levels of satisfaction in the relationship, and can even make a relationship last longer.
So what’s the takeaway from all this?
Maybe it’s time we stop trying to overanalyze or rate our levels of compatibility with our partner, and instead focus on the simple trait of being kinder to each other.
While it may seem like an oversimplified approach, practicing kindness in a relationship builds the foundation for a lasting relationship.
Think about it. Being kind and caring to your partner goes hand-in-hand with other, necessary healthy relationship attributes. Trusting each other, being thoughtful, being willing to compromise, and showing flexibility are all extensions of practicing kindness.
So whether you’ve just begun a new relationship with someone special, or you’ve been in a relationship for some time now and wondering how you can make it last, be kind. It costs nothing, and yet it very well may be the best long-term investment you can make for your relationship.
